Positions
Below are the positions available for your primary role on the YEARBOOK staff. Although everyone will get a chance to create their own page(s) within the book, we will need to have people assigned to specific positions as well. Please take a moment to read through the list below and consider which you can best contribute your talents to.
Once the staff positions are assigned, the names will be published below. You will need to seek these people out as you work through your pages.
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF (Advisor) – Ms. Chuck
The editor-in-chief is the person who can approve pages on Herff Jones website. This person has the final say in all matters and is ultimately responsible for the project. This position has been filled.
Executive Editor(s) - Gabi, Katrina, Megan F.
Also known as the editor, or editors. Responsible for everything in the book and ultimately decides how the project comes together. Creates the page ladder and handles the daily tasks of the yearbook. Editors have to make tough decisions and will have a lot of work to do, more than any other position on staff by far. This position can be stressful but is very rewarding. You are very committed to the book, you have excellent attendance and don't mind being pushed around by others. You are available to work during lunch, spare and after school when required. You will basically be thinking about this book non-stop until the final page is approved.
Photo Editors - Ellisa, Katrina, Zain
You are good at taking photos and editing them. You are responsible for approving the quality of all photos that are used in the book. You will often be called on to take photos of teams, clubs and events in the school.
Portraits (Mugs) - Daniela, Noah
This task requires you to verify the names and photos of every person in school. You will work together with the Editors to create the portrait pages within the book. This is a very important and time-consuming position that requires a great deal of commitment and dedication. You need to be organized, creative and logical.
Creative/Art Direction - Sam, Megan G., Nick, Aaron
You are good at graphic design, Photoshop and art. You help keep each page in line with the theme of the book. You will make recommendations to the other staff members on the look of their pages and will often need to help 'fix' pages to ensure consistency.
Grad Comments, Baby Photos & Grad Votes - Rylie
You are responsible for conducting a poll of graduating students and collecting comments from all grads. This is a very time consuming and sometimes frustrating job. You need to be very organized and persistent. You don't mind chasing down people and are able to do this through a variety of means.
Journalism/Copy Editors- Melissa, Jason
You are good at writing, spelling, grammar & English. You help with writing columns and articles and are responsible for the writing in the book.
Fact Checkers - Everyone
You are responsible for making sure we have our facts straight. You double check the correct spelling of every name in the book. You noticed the typo at the start of this description. You will often be sent on assignment to find out details for other staff members. You don't mind approaching staff and students with questions. You may also be asked to conduct interviews for other journalists.
Equipment/Logistics/Assistant - Everyone
You are good at making sure the batteries are charged and the cameras are ready to go. You help to plan and execute the logistical details of the book. You assist others with miscellaneous tasks, sometimes without notice. You don't mind bringing a coffee to the advisor. Small milk with one sugar, please.
